Versailles, Kentucky ~ The Heart of the Bluegrass

This White Hydrangea flanks our entrance but actually belongs to our neighbor. It is over 80 years old! We're anxious to see if it makes it after the ice storm last winter...

Notes from the Innkeepers.....
Greetings and Welcome from the Matthews Family! Your innkeepers since September 2006, it is with great pleasure we come from Arizona to inhabit and love this exquisite Bed and Breakfast Inn.
Things are always bustling behind the scenes here at Montgomery Inn. Our new online gift shop is live. You can order gifts of our homemade gourmet creations anytime of year now! We've had requests to can our hot maple cinnamon apple-cranberry-walnut compote, so that will most likely be our next product addition.
Dinner at the Montgomery is available by reservation only. We serve a 3 course dinner including beverage using some of our own products as well as our favorite recipes from our restaurant and catering days. The portions are hearty and the flavors delicious--so if relaxing at the Inn is your thing, no need to go out again--"we're here for you!" $48/per couple plus tax and gratuity. We tend to serve dinner around 7ish but we are flexible. If you're staying over a Sunday, they tend to roll up the sidewalks in Versailles and Midway so this is a great night to eat at the Inn! There are still tons of restaurant choices in Lexington and Frankfort--not to worry--no one goes hungry at the Montgomery!
Our Coffee Bar is finally installed and running so you'll be able to have a fresh brew right in the dining room along with our hot tea bar and snacks and cold beverages. We freshly brew our special order coffee as we need it. Available 24/7 you can linger and relax or take it with you to your room. Offering coffee to go is just another way we offer you value for your stay.
You may notice another addition at the Inn from time to time--the "Tall Guy" as I so fondly call him is incredibly knowledgeable about the thoroughbreds and racing and will be happy to answer your questions about the area. So if you love to "talk horses" seek Clay out.
We want to be the first Bed & Breakfast in Kentucky to GO GREEN !!
We're replacing old appliances with newer efficient ones, increasing our recycling, changing out more lighting to the efficient fluorescent bulbs.
We have a new to go cup that is 100% made from corn and totally biodegradable! How cool is that!
If you'd like to re-use your towels simply hang them up. If you'd like fresh ones leave them in a pile.
You can help, too, by adjusting the thermostat if you'll be gone all day and shutting off the lights. It's good to know there are simple things each of us can do to help secure the future for our families.
There is a saying in the industry "Come as Strangers, Leave as friends..." And this is certainly true about our guests. We have joined Facebook and Twitter so feel free to stay in touch!
History in the making at Montgomery Inn--the Old Girl is 98....
In 1911 Dorothy Krabel received 270 Montgomery Ave as a Bride's gift on her wedding day. She lived here with her family her entire life. The Sills' purchased the home and renovated it somewhere around 1988, opening it as the Sills Inn. We are the 4th Innkeepers and hopefully the last for many years to come! It was so special to have first the descendents of the Krabel family as guests, and then the Sills family this year--what a treat to be able to hear their stories and reminisce. You'll find their parting comments in some of our guestbooks in the rooms.
And for those who have yet to visit:
-How do you capture the aroma of thick sliced maple bacon wafting up the stairs each morning, or those ooey-gooey caramel chunk cookies baking each afternoon?...The sensation of sliding into those fresh cotton sateen sheets after a long soak in a herb scented jacuzzi tub?
The laughter in the kitchen as more than one guest has been "caught" by another with their "hand in the cookie jar" for just one more before bed? The serene look on couples faces as they push away from that last course of a special dinner in that beautiful softly lit dining room surrounded by large palm fronds, warm breezes and enveloped by soft classical music?
- How do you capture he feel of the air as the morning mist lifts off the neighboring pastures?
-How do you describe the comaraderie many enjoy as they browse our movie, book, magazine and board game selection
or take in a football game in the media room,
or strike up a conversation over a cool drink on the large wrap around porch
or across the tables over a hearty breakfast?
The suites are too big to fit into one photograph, but even our coziest is larger than your average hotel room and with so many things included, folks are just blown away by the experience.
Still, you can't feel what several have called their best night's sleep in months on the internet, or sense the fun atmosphere in the light conversation and banter among innkeepers and guests. I guess you'll just have to be here!
We've been scurrying around to put our finishing touches on an already wonderful Inn and enjoying every moment of it. We are serving dinners for guests by reservation, and booking catered dinners for businesses, boxed lunches are available for your outings and the Imperial Gift Shop off of the main dining room is a great stop for souvineers and gifts. We stock local honey there and some of our own creations, too.
We've upgraded the bed linens, the pillows, the towels, added herbal bath salts, gourmet chocolates on the pillows, oversized waffle velour bath robes, and our own favorite brand of gourmet Southern coffee.
My favorite dishes from a previous life as owner of Pamela's Restaurant and Tea Room (we still own the 1840's antique New England Cape) come along and fit here well, too.My homemade granola topping from our breakfast fruit & yogurt parfaits is on the recipe page.
Little special touches--easy access to your favorite beverages, midnight snacks, homebaked treats, special gourmet and international recipes as well as down home Southern style favorites all add to a delicious experience.
So please do come see us, stay long and come often! We know you'll enjoy it as much as we do!
At Your Service,
The Matthews Family-- Pam, Ross and Michaela
